A very strong statement from Bush

'WE'LL DEFEND ISRAEL'

I will be the first to admit a lack of enthusiasm for the current President. Notwithstanding that, today aboard Air Force One, Bush has, for the first time that I can remember, stated a position that places the USA in the position of defender of the existence of the State of Israel with what appears to be US force. This is a very strong pro-Israel statement (made in connection with Iran and its leader's comments).

"Israel is a solid ally of the United States, we will rise to Israel's defense if need be. So this kind of menacing talk is disturbing," he added.
Asked if he meant the United States would rise to Israel's defense militarily, Bush said: "You bet, we'll defend Israel."

All I can say, is that if these words ever need to be followed by deeds, I hope that he is true to his word.

WHY WE FUNDRAISE FOR FHC

I have been involved with FHC fundraising for several years. I have also been on the Board of Trustees for almost three years. Each annual budget that I can recall states that the Hebrew School runs at a substantial deficit. I personally consider our "non-earmarked" fundraising efforts to be for the betterment of FHC and specifically for the children of FHC Hebrew School.

Fundraising events at FHC are done for essentially two reasons:

TO RAISE MONEY and
TO HAVE ENJOYABLE PROGRAMMING.

RAISE MONEY:

Instead of higher dues and Hebrew School tuition costs, some of us like to organize and have events and functions that bring in additional income. I personally believe programming events such as DOC ROCK, SUPER BOWL, COMEDY NIGHT, CABARET NIGHT, SILENT AUCTION, MOVIE NIGHTS, ART AUCTION, GOLF OUTING, ETC. are a tremendous benefit to FHC. These events are usually enjoyable and profitable, and at the same time help to offset dues and tuition costs. The money you spend at these events has a direct benefit to the guest and to FHC.

Yet, without exception, it is difficult to plan and run these events because people do not RSVP on a timely basis and we are always pushing for more people to attend events. Doc Rock was successful, but it was primarily because we had approx. 50 walk-in guests.

The fundraising committee, as well as those who help out, believe that we are putting on events that can raise money and be enjoyable. If the events are not enjoyable, we want to know about it. If there are other events that you would like us to run, let us know because we want the events to be attended by the members and the friends of FHC. That means you need to RSVP for the events, and if you cannot RSVP, you should make it a point to be a walk-in guest so that the event is a success. Of course, you can also send in a donation for the event so that we recognize your desire/appreciation for such an event, whether or not you are able to attend.

ENJOYABLE PROGRAMMING:

Great efforts have been made to have events that are enjoyable for the whole family and for single members of FHC. We have incorporated family movies, babysitting, diversification of the food served and other things to make the events more "user friendly". To make our events even more successful, we need your input and involvement. Come to the next event and tell us what you think.

We volunteer our time and energy, like the hardworking Bingo volunteers, like the Executive Comm., like the Board of Trustees, like the Board of Education, like the Sisterhood, like the Men's Club, like the other numerous Committees of FHC to make the FHC experience more enjoyable and more like an extended Jewish family.

Let's all make an effort to attend fundraising events and programming, because it is the right thing to do. And when you come to a fundraising event, you will be pleasantly surprised that you also had a good time.
